Donations for Infinity Crush/Teen Suicide/Julia Brown

Okay guys so you may know I love the band Teen Suicide. Caroline, a member of Teen Suicide, Julia Brown, and Infinity Crush, is apparently really sick. There are some hospital bills piling up, so some of her friends and band members are posting music downloads to raise money. Sam of Teen Suicide and Julia Brown has posted a solo album under the name Starry Cat. It’s up as “name your own price” on bandcamp. Sam recently wrote:

“any money paid or donated to it would go straight to caroline (via her paypal) to help pay for everything… if you want to grab it but can’t afford to donate, feel free. just share if you can since anything helps.”

What a sweetie. Let’s donate y’all. Also, If you’re more of an emo fan, Cameron of Old Gray has posted some solo music to raise money for Caroline as well!

Both of these downloads are super great! Listen to Starry Cat’s song Happiness and Cameron Boucher’s cover of Paper Dreams and I know you’ll wanna download and I know you won’t wanna do it for free.

Places to Hide- Getting Old EP

Places to hide from Charleston, SC/ Atlanta, GA are a (basically) female-fronted pop-punk band who have released one small EP which had one large impact on me. I’m crazy about it.  It’s got just enough of a folksy influence and heart. It’s six songs long, three of which you can hear on their bandcamp.  Word on the street is that they have a full length coming out pretty soon.

Favorite Christmas song this holiday season:

I just wanna watch how you’ll age and the way your clothes change.

Teen Suicide (The Band)

Picture 1

Teen Suicide, an emo band from Maryland, is like no other band I can think of. They’re like a lo-fi experimental emo band or something. I feel like that doesn’t do them justice. You should really just listen to them. They’re clearly outta my league review-wise.

Their first release of 2012, DC snuff film, came out in February. I downloaded it from their bandcamp around that time and have loved it ever since. BUT I went to their bandcamp again today and realized they might be superheros or robots because in the past year they’ve put out three more releases. That’s two LP’s and two EP’s over the course of ten months. Their second LP i will be my own hell because there is a devil inside my body  I am now discovering is even better than DC snuff.

If you read this and don’t click one of the above links you will for real break my heart.

Do you think it’s too late to buy these albums for everyone I know for Christmas?

Football, etc. (Happy Thanksgiving)

In my post about Kittyhawk I mentioned that there aren’t many female fronted emo bands. Well, I guess I was forgetting about Houston natives Football, etc. Back in 2009 Count Your Lucky Stars Records released their amazing four-track EP First Down, and last year they released their full length, The Draft. First Down‘s title track is the highlight of the EP.

I hope you get a black lung/ I hope that you get two of them

The full length has the same hypnotic vocals, rambling bass, and shoegazey elements. It moves away from the math rock guitar styles evident in their EP, and overall I don’t like it quite as much. But it’s a close call! Listen to both. Especially if you’re a fan of Rainer Maria or American Football.

Coping- NOPE

The Chicago emo group Coping decided to break up over the summer, but before making it official they recorded their second album, NOPE. It was released on their bandcamp in September and will be available on vinyl in December from Protagonist Records. If you’re a fan of midwest emo then you’ll love this album. Double Perfect and B are my favorites. I’m getting old and you’re getting loud.

Cain Marko- Show Me the Way to go Home

Tapes Not Bombs released the new Cain Marko album, Show Me the Way to go Home, earlier this week. The Grand Rapids punk 4-piece has been at it since late 2010. This is their first full length album after a number of EPs. All of their music is available for a small price on their bandcamp. Their last release was the At Sea EP almost two years ago. They have become SO much more musically interesting since then. At Sea is basically generic and boring. Maybe it’s just not my style. But it’s so great to see how far they took all the promise that EP held for improvement and made something incredible. The vocals are the best part of the early work and those don’t change, but the lyrics, melodies, and hooks improve like crazy. If you like Tiger’s Jaw or Hot Water Music you should check these guys out! Especially the tracks Promises in Pen and Kitchen Knife. I bet they’d be a blast to see live and I bet if you’re reading this in Michigan you can.
